Warriors 3 cruise past Gryphons D
On Sunday 23rd March 2025 our development team took on Leeds University’s Gryphons (D) at Planet Ice, Leeds in a challenge game.
Dressed players:
Rory Butcher (NM), Andis Jansons, Ashleigh Farmer, Ash Davies, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker, Dale Bedford, Dan Read, Jared Weldon, Jonjo Marshall, Josh Moss, Paul Eaglestone, Phil Bradley, Phil Pearce, Sam Stokes, Simon Hill, Tomasz Molenda and Zach Huntley.
1st period
It took the Warriors a while to settle into the game and despite their overall dominance, they didn’t convert until the 8th minute of the game when Josh Moss opened the scoring - assisted by Sam Stokes and Connor Brocklebank.
But once that first goal was scored, the floodgates opened. The Warriors converted 3 more times in the period to enter the first interval 4-0 to the good. The goals being scored by Moss, Jared Weldon and Tomasz Molenda.

2nd period
The Warriors were full of confidence going into the middle period and the players were goal-hungry. This was reflected in the period score as this was their most prolific of the game. The Warriors ran-riot - converting 8 unanswered goals.
Scorers included : Andis Jansons, Brocklebank, Weldon, Stokes, Paul Eaglestone and Jonjo Marshall. Also, according to the scoresheet - number 38 scored, but no-one with that number was playing.

3rd period
With victory secured, the team entered the final period relaxed, ready to enjoy their hockey.
It was another prolific period for goal-scoring as the Warriors notched up another 5 to their tally - bringing it up to 17 for the night.
Both Sam Stokes and Andis Jansons bagged another couple of goals to bring up their hat-tricks for the night, whilst Tomasz Molenda added to his earlier goal to end the game with a brace.

An excellent performance and a convincing win for the Warriors development squad, with some great performances throughout the lineup. Sam Stokes and Andis Jansons both managed to pick up hat-tricks, so congratulations to them. Commiserations to the Gryphons D team - hopefully they still enjoyed the experience. I’m sure they’ll come back stronger next time.

Player of the Game, as selected by the Gryphons, went to Andis Jansons who picked up 7 points - and the Coach’s Helmet went to Dale Bedford. Well done fellas! And thanks to the Gryphons for a good game.
