Warriors 2 devoured by Cannibals

On Saturday 22nd March 2025 our Warriors 2 team made the short trip to Bradford to take on the Cannibals in a challenge game.

After four consecutive IHSC Cup games, the Warriors 2 team now played a challenge game against the Bradford Cannibals. With number one goalie Ben Briggs unavailable, Simon Bainbridge stepped in as the netminder.

Dressed players

Simon Bainbridge (NM), Adam Gibbons, Adam Tomlinson, Andrew Everson, Arek Koziel, Chris Scampton, Corey Clough-Howard, David Reid, Howard Barwick, lvans Lebedjoks, Will Gibbons, Jamie Thurston, Liam Symington, Louis Feather, Luke Cadman, Petr Dostal, Ryan Marsh, Stewart Nelson and Tim Lyndon-Belt.

1st period

The game started out evenly contested with both teams feeling each other out. It took until the 5th minute for a breakthrough when the Cannibals took the lead, 1-0.

Undeterred, the Warriors kept fighting and with the clock at 07:33, Captain Howard Barwick scored the equalising goal, assisted by Corey Clough-Howard.

But just over a minute later (08:40), the Warriors picked up a 2-minute minor penalty, which proved to be costly as the Cannibals capitalised by scoring on the power-play (09:13). 2-1 Cannibals.

Unfortunately, a mere 24 seconds later, the hosts extended their lead to 3-1, giving some daylight between the teams for the first time (09:37).

Determined to make sure the game didn’t slip away from their grasp, the Warriors battled on and scored the next goal to close the gap to 3-2. With the clock at 13:11, Andrew Everson scored the goal, unassisted. Game on!

Unfortunately, the period ended badly for the Warriors as the hosts converted two more goals on 14:52 and 18:59 to take a commanding 5-2 lead into the first interval.

2nd period

The Warriors needed a strong start to the middle period in order to try and reduce the deficit, but unfortunately the hosts extended their lead in the opening 20 seconds, to make it 6-2 Cannibals.

Again, the Warriors were undeterred and didn’t let their heads go down. Battling hard, they got their 3rd goal of the night when Petr Dostal scored from Everson and Ryan Marsh assists (22:17).

The Warriors were continuing to make a game of this and with the wind in their sails, they picked up a hard-earned 4th goal of the night on 24:29 when Adam Tomlinson scored an unassisted goal. It was now 6-4 to the Cannibals and with less then half of the game done, it felt like this could go either way.

But the Cannibals roared back into the game, scoring twice in quick succession to re-assert their dominance. The goals were timed at 25:05 and 25:26. With the score now at 8-4, this was a huge blow to the Warriors.

Less than 5 minutes later at 31:09, Warriors Captain, Barwick slotted home his 2nd of the night to make it 8-5. The assists coming from Liam Symington and Tomlinson.

Unfortunately, there was a final sting in the tail from the Cannibals before the period ended, as they racked up goal number 9 with 37:46 on the clock.

3rd period

Although the odds were stacked against the Warriors, if they were to score an early goal in the final period, it could still be all to play for.

And they did score the first goal of the final period - with 41:55 on the clock, David Reid got on the board from a Chris Scampton assist. The score was now 9-6 and it was game on.

But whilst there had been early promise of a come-back, this wasn’t to be the Warriors best period of the night. Over the next 6 minutes, the Cannibals converted 5 unanswered goals to give themselves an unassailable 14-6 lead.

The Warriors struck back on 50:42 when Scampton scored from an Everson assist, to make it 14-7 but this was followed by 3 more Cannibals goals on 57:39, 57:50 an 58:30.

Despite the game being over as a contest, our lads kept on playing up to the final buzzer and scored their 8th of the night, when Luke Cadman scored from a Scampton assist.

Final score:
