Honours even as Warriors 2 battle the Renegades in Blackburn

On Sunday June 19th, Warriors 2nd squad travelled across to Blackburn for a matchup against the Renegades, looking to build on an impressive draw with Bradford in their last game.

Leeds got off to flying start, scoring the first two goals of the game, both coming from Captain Niku Ghaemi. However the Renegades weren’t about to rollover, and they responded with three unanswered goals to go ahead 3-2.

As the period wound down, the Warriors’ Jamie Thurston scored (assisted by Jeff Hardy) to level things up at 3-3 at the end of the first.

The second period was a much tighter affair, with Blackburn grabbing the only goal and going ahead 4-3.

The Warriors knew they needed a big push in the final twenty minutes if they were going to get something out of the game. However things didn’t look good when the Renegades scored first to extend their lead to 5-3.

But Leeds weren’t done, and Ghaemi got them back to within one goal by completing his hat-trick, and in the closing minutes, Arek Koziel (assisted by Callum Muir) tied the game and sealed the comeback, giving us a final score of 5-5.

A back and forth, fun game all round, and another strong outing and result for a Warriors 2 squad that continues to improve with every game.

The Player of the Game was given to goalie Vadims Nazarenko who came in for the third period and didn’t concede a singe goal to help close out the game for the Warriors.

And congrats to Jamie Thurston, who was awarded the Helmet by team captain Niku Ghaemi for his goal and his all round improvement in recent months.

Scorers:

Niku Ghaemi 3+0

Arek Koziel 1+0

Jamie Thurston 1+0

Callum Muir 0+1

Jeff Hardy 0+1
