Summer 2022 Warriors Cup result

The second Warriors Cup took place on Sunday 26th June at Planet Ice in Leeds.

This is an internal tournament which again saw players from across our Warriors 1, 2, and 3 squads divided into five tournament teams, known as the Flyers, Maple Leafs, Stars, Penguins, and Capitals.

At stake once again was the hallowed Warriors Cup trophy, built and donated by our own Jared Weldon.

One twist for this iteration of the tournament was that the players for each team were pulled out of a hat by an allocated team captain.

The captains were made up of members of the winning team from the first Cup, the Stars, namely: Heather McCarten, Josh Edwards, Ivans Lebedjoks, Cory Clough-Howard, and Raivis Voitans.

The competition was fierce from the start, and many of the games were hard fought battles. After the round robin games and semi-finals were complete, the final showdown was between the Capitals and the unbeaten Stars.

In a tight game, the W1 lines cancelled each other out at 0-0 and the result came down to the performance of the W2 and W3, with the Stars coming out narrow winners.

Special mention to Stars goalie Ben Cohen who pulled off a couple of unbelievable stops against the Caps W1 line.

Congrats to the winning team!

Mark Taylor, Josh Edwards (C), Jeff Hardy, Nathan Clegg, David Gorog, Michael Laidler, Ben Cohen, Mitch White, Ash Pryce, Andy Giles

It’s worth mentioning that Stars’ Captain, Josh Edwards has been on the winning team for both Warriors Cup competitions. Well done Josh. Let’s see if he can keep it going!
