Warriors 2 squashed by Fat Dads in M62 Cup

On Saturday 6th May, our Warriors 2 team travelled to Hull Arena to take on the Kingston Fat Dads in the M62 Cup.

This was the first time the Warriors and Fat Dads had met and it was sure to be an interesting match-up.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, they were without some important players - Captain Niku Ghaemi, Simon Morrow and Tom Cokill were all absent.

As a result, D man Nathan Clegg played as a forward and Warriors 3 Captain, Rich Guttridge accepted the invite to play.

Also, coach Sam Forrester was unable to make the game, but Warriors 1 players Jacob King and Andy Giles helped with bench coaching.

1st period

The Warriors started brightly, attacking the Fat Dads goal inside the first minute. They thought they had opened the scoring but the official ruled it out.

The Fat Dads picked up a cross checking penalty after 11 minutes, but managed to score a short-handed goal shortly after.

Despite the setback, the Warriors fought on and after 16 minutes, they grabbed an equaliser through a Sean Clough goal.

Ryan Marsh had chipped the puck to Howard Barwick who traveled down the boards to the back of the net before finding Clough in the slot.

At the end of the first period, the score was:

Fat Dads 1 Warriors 1

2nd period

With the score even, the game could go either way and the next goal was crucial.

Unfortunately, it went to the Fat Dads - within 53 seconds of the restart.

2-1 to Fat Dads.

Both teams battled hard for the remainder of the period and there was only one more goal. On 27 minutes the Fat Dads extended their lead to make it 3-1 going into the final period.

Fat Dads 3 Warriors 1

3rd period

With it being only a two goal deficit, it was all to play for in the final period.

Only one minute had elapsed in the period when the Fat Dads took another cross checking penalty, giving the Warriors a powerplay opportunity.

But unfortunately, 16 seconds after the restart, the Fat Dads scored their second short-handed goal of the game to make it 4-1.

In the 47th minute, Louis Feather laid a big hit on a Fat Dads player, which didn’t go down well with the opposition, resulting in a fight and game penalty for both players.

The home team were able to take advantage of the tiring Warriors and finished the scoring with their 5th of the game.

FINAL SCORE:

Fat Dads 5 Warriors 1
