Warriors 2 get squashed by the Fat Dads

On Saturday 18th May our Warriors 2 team welcomed the Kingston Fat Dads to Planet Ice, Leeds, for the return fixture in the M62 Cup.

The corresponding away fixture was back in December 2023 and resulted in the Warriors leaving Hull with the 2 points after a closely fought 3-5 victory. It was expected that this would be another highly competitive game between two evenly matched teams.

The Warriors were able to ice four forward lines and three D pairs, however they were without a few key players, with Louis Feather, Tom Cokill, James Way, and Lewis Astill amongst those unavailable. Joe Quinn started in goal, with Andrew Hughes backing up.

Dressed players

1st period

The Fat Dads started the game strongly and their early dominance paid off with two goals within the first five minutes. The Warriors struggled to get going and while they held Kingston off the scoresheet for the rest the period, they would need to step up their game to get back into the contest.

2nd period

Other than a few positive moments, it was a similar story in the middle frame, with the Fat Dads controlling the play, heavily outshooting the Warriors 19-5 in the period. Goalie Joe Quinn kept the score respectable, as Kingston only managed two goals, despite their continued dominance.

3rd period

Warriors coach Niks Kamaldins gave the team both barrels during the intermission, however the final period saw more of the same, as the Fat Dads once again outshot Leeds (15-7) and racked up a further four goals. Midway through the period, goalie Joe Quinn essentially pulled himself, and Andrew Hughes took over in net for the rest of the game. Both goalies put in solid performances, despite the disparity on the shot clock.

Final score:

Warriors 0 Fat Dads 8

Joe Quinn

The Player of the Game for the Warriors, as selected by the Fat Dads, went to netminder Andrew Hughes and the Captain’s helmet went to Joe Quinn. That’s his second in as many games. Well played guys.
