Koryos Cup : Wolves and Warriors go to a shoot-out!

On Saturday 25th May 2024, our Warriors’ grey team travelled to Bradford Ice Arena to play their second game in the Koryos Cup - against the Ice Wolves’ white team.

Previously, the grey team played the Ice Wolves’ Blue team in March and lost 11-3.

1st period

The Ice Wolves’ white team started quickly, scoring the opening goal after only 38 seconds. But Warriors grey roared back into the game and equalised in 2 minutes when Josh Moss scored from a Stella Giwisser assist. With the momentum with the Warriors, they pressed forward and took the lead after 7 minutes when Jared Weldon scored. Once again, the assist came from Giwisser. The Warriors posted their third goal after 13 minutes when Weldon scored his second of the period, taking the assist from Moss. A great first 20 minutes for the team and individually for Moss, Weldon and Giwisser - who all registered two points in the period.

2nd period

The Ice Wolves’ white team came out fighting in the second period and scored three goals in four minutes to take a 4-3 lead. The goals came in the 22nd, 23rd and 26th minutes, leaving the Warriors shell-shocked. But the visitors managed to stop the bleeding in the remainder of the period as they battled hard and found the equaliser on 35 minutes when Paul Eaglestone slotted it home.

3rd period

At 4-4 it was all to play for going into the final period. The Warriors started strongly, bagging two consecutive goals. The first goal came on 45 minutes as Eaglestone bagged his second goal of the game, assisted by Weldon. The other was an unassisted goal from Connor Brocklebank after 47 minutes. At 6-4, the visitors had created some daylight between the teams and things looked promising for the win. But the Ice Wolves weren’t done. With only 6 minutes left on the clock, they pulled one back to make it 6-5 and set up a nervy end to the game. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the hosts managed to get the equaliser after 58 minutes. Heart-breaking for our team.
