Our story

Since the first Warriors trial on 16th August 2020, Leeds Warriors have grown to be a three team club, with over 70 registered players.

The club has a structured committee and 2 x qualified coaches. There is a clear development pathway which enables players to move up and/or down the three teams for the benefit of their own hockey development.

Leeds Warriors are the brain-child of Ryan Kennedy, who started playing ice hockey in Paisley from the age of 9 until he was 11.

After many years off the ice, he was inspired to start playing again after watching hockey games at the new Planet Ice rink in Leeds.

His goal was to create an environment that’s welcoming for new players and returning players, or players with less experience who need help with developing their skills and confidence on the ice.

What he has achieved can not be overstated, especially with the backdrop of a pandemic.

From commissioning the logo to organising the ice time, from taking off-ice training sessions to designing the merchandise - plus all the social media output - Ryan created Leeds Warriors IHC and it’s here to stay.

“For me, it’s not about skill or abilities, that can be taught and learned. It’s all about team chemistry. I wanted to create a team and environment with an awesome bunch of people where we can grow and develop together, where no one feels left behind or out of their depth.”
