Warriors 2 cruise to victory in Nottingham

On Friday 22nd March our Warriors 2 team travelled to Nottingham to take on the Cyclones at Motorpoint Arena.

The Warriors had won their first two games of this season’s M62 Cup, plus a credible tie against Sheffield Blazers, scoring 15 goals in those three previous encounters. So the team were in confident mood going into this game.

1st period

After the opening exchanges, the game was close and the pendulum could have swung either way.

But the Warriors gradually started to dominate and got their breakthrough after 12 minutes with a goal from Chris Scampton, assisted by Lewis Astill.

Helped by some great defensive play and back-checking by Adam Tomlinson and James Ryan, the Warriors remained solid at the rear and were able to double their lead after 16 minutes with another goal from Scampton. Assisted by Tom Cokill.

A great first period for the Warriors.

2nd period

The second period picked up where the first ended, with both teams trading chances and Warriors netminder Joe Quinn pulling off some great saves.

But it was the Warriors who were the more clinical.

On the 25 minute mark, Liam Symington scored, with assists coming from Jeff Hardy and Sean Clough.

0-3 Warriors.

Before the Cyclones could regroup and try to get back in the game, the Warriors notched up a fourth goal on 31 minutes - Tom Gabbitas scoring an unassisted goal.

With the period closing at 0-4, the Warriors were in a comfortable position going into the final third.

3rd period

Going into the final period, confidence was high in the Warriors camp. They needed to make sure they didn’t give the Cyclones any encouragement and hoped to add some more goals to put the game to bed.

They didn’t disappoint! Whilst the Cyclones tired, the Warriors kicked on and wanted more goals. The team bagged three more goals in the final period.

Jamie Thurston scored the Warriors fifth with an assist from Gabbitas - who notched up 1+1 for the night.

The Warriors sixth goal was created by two of the Warriors players of the game - Howie Barwick scoring from an Adam Tomlinson assist.

The seventh and final goal of the game was a special one for Scampton as he bagged a hat-trick for the night. The assist coming from Rich Guttridge.
