Warriors 1 defeated by Gryphons

The Warriors lost 4-2 on Friday night’s game against Leeds University team, the Gryphons.

The Gryphons iced several league players plus a Sheffield Steeldog prospect, meaning the Warriors were the underdogs from the start.

By the end of the first period, the score was 3-0 to the Gryphons, but in the second period, the Warriors pulled one back through a Raivis Voitans goal. The first ever goal scored by a Warriors player.

Early in the final period, Will Gibbons pounced on a scramble in front of the net to close the gap to 3-2 and things looked promising for the Warriors, as the Gryphons players appeared to tire. But unfortunately, despite out-shooting the Gryphons, the Warriors were caught on a counter-attack as the Gryphons restored their 2 goal advantage and made it 4-2.

It was a very promising display from the Warriors considering this was their first ever game together and the overall mood after the game was one of positivity and optimism.

The ‘Spirit of the game’ award was won by Will Gibbons. Will was also named the Captain’s ‘Player of the Night’. Will worked really hard all game and his goal was richly deserved.
