Warriors Cup result

The Warriors Cup took place on Sunday 6th March at Planet Ice in Leeds.

This was an internal competition which saw players from across our three teams divided into 6 smaller teams to compete in a round-robin tournament including a semi-final and the final.

The teams were the Flyers, Maple Leafs, Stars, Penguins, Golden Knights and the Capitals.

Jared Weldon of our Warriors 3 team built a trophy out of old wooden hockey sticks which is mightily impressive and probably weighs more than the Stanley Cup itself. Great work Jared.

Head Coach Alex Jones briefed all players before the tournament to make sure everyone was aware of their additional roles for the periods in between games - goal judge, time keeper etc.

Prior to the tournament starting, players mingled in the bar and the beer was flowing. This tournament was as much about all 3 teams getting to know each other as it was about the hockey.

That said, once the pucks dropped, it was highly competitive and by the end, some players were sporting bruises and one player came away with a chipped tooth from a stick.

After a lot of closely fought games, the semi finalists were :

  • Flyers v Maple Leafs

  • Stars v Capitals

The final was battled out between the Stars and Maple Leafs - with the Stars coming out as the eventual winners. Well done guys, you played brilliantly all tournament.

Stars players:

Finally, big shout out to all those who helped organise this tournament, especially Alex Jones and Lisa Speed.

Hopefully this will become a Warriors tradition.
