Warriors 2 bitten again by Ice Wolves

On Saturday 1st April, Warriors 2 welcomed the Bradford Ice Wolves to Planet Ice Leeds for the reverse fixture - after meeting in Bradford on 11th March.

Wearing the Warriors’ grey jersey for the first time, the team were determined to improve on the 8-0 loss to the Ice Wolves last month.

1st period

The away team settled into the game quickly and scored their opening goal with only 59 seconds played.

The Warriors battled hard but were unable to mount any meaningful attacks. Whereas the Ice Wolves continued to look dangerous every time they picked up possession.

Inevitably, the away side picked up their second and third goals with 14:55 and 11:19 on the clock.

With Warriors’ Tom Cokill having picked up a minor penalty at 8:52 in the period, the Ice Wolves were able to capitalise on the man advantage and score their fourth at 8:11.

The Ice Wolves dominance continued for the following few minutes as their fifth and sixth goals came with 6:33 and 3:01 on the clock.

Undeterred by the 0-6 score line, the Warriors kept fighting and got their reward with 1:02 remaining, as Simon Morrow slotted home.

The period ended 1-6 and the Warriors were on the board, giving them something to build on.

The interval gave the Warriors a much needed opportunity to regroup and take onboard the guidance from coach Sam Forrester.

2nd Period

The second period did not start well, as the Ice Wolves continued to assert their dominance on the game.

At 16:28, the Wolves claimed their seventh, and at 10:31, their eighth.

As this was around the half-way point in the game, coach Forrester took the opportunity to change goalie. Vadims Nazarenko making way for Ben Cohen.

Unfortunately for Cohen, the Ice Wolves were able to score within 7 seconds of the restart, making it 1-9 to the away team.

With 7:13 remaining in the period, the Warriors were on a powerplay. Just as the penalty was due to expire, Warriors defence man Louis Feather spotted an opportunity to take a shot and scored a well taken goal.

Within 56 seconds of the restart, the Warriors were back on the offensive and scored their third of the night. Chris Scampton slotting it home.

This was the last of the goals for the period, which ended in a 2-3 period and a 3-9 score line overall.

The Warriors were now back in the game and the scoreboard was looking respectable.

3rd period

Could the Warriors keep this momentum going and close the gap - or had they ran out of steam from their efforts in the second period?

Sadly, it seemed like the latter was the case as the Ice Wolves turned up the heat.

Number 29 for the away team had been a constant threat all game and he was involved in most of their goals in the final period.

The Ice Wolves scored six more times without reply in the period, meaning the final score-line was 3-15 to Ice Wolves.
