Warriors 3 perform well despite Comets defeat

On Saturday 12th November, our development team took on their Cleveland Comets counterparts at Planet Ice in Leeds.

This was the first game under our development team’s new coach and Warriors 1 player, Jacob King, who managed the bench alongside Tom Mallon.

1st period

The Comets opened the scoring in the 1st period. but the Warriors soon pegged them back to 1-1 with a goal from David Gorog (assisted by Chris Scampton).

The Comets bagged another couple to create some daylight between the teams at 1-3 but again, the Warriors stayed in the game with a 2nd goal which came from Mark Taylor (unassisted).

With the game at 2-3, both teams scored once more each to end the period 3-4 to Comets. The Warriors 3rd goal being scored by Chris Scampton.

2nd period

With the score-line so close, it was all to play for going into the 2nd period.

Unfortunately, the game didn’t start well for the Warriors as the Comets scored 3 goals unanswered, taking the score to 3-7 Comets.

The Warriors could have become deflated but they kept fighting and almost matched the Comets goal-for-goal for the reminder of the period, with the Warriors netting 3 and the Comets 4.

Warriors goals were scored by Kyle Jenkinson (2) (assisted by Den Bautris), and Jared Weldon (assisted by Matt Dudley).

At the end of the period the score stood at 6-11 Comets.

3rd period

Being 5 goals behind, the Warriors faced an uphill task in the final 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, the Warriors seemed to have run out of steam, after putting in so much effort in the first 2 periods, as the Comets bagged another 4 goals to the Warriors 1 - scored by Chris Scampton (assisted by David Gorog and David Macintyre).

This took the final score to 7-15 Comets.

Despite the loss, this was a great effort from the team. Coach Jacob King is extremely proud of the team for playing their hearts out and continuing to fight until the end.

Special mentions need to go to Chris Scampton and Kyle Jenkinson who both bagged 2 goals each. Well done guys.
