Warriors 3 defeated away at Bradford Ice Wolves

On Sunday 8th January, our development team made the short trip to Bradford to take on the Ice Wolves in their first challenge game of the 2022-23 season.

1st period

This was also our development teams’ first game away from home, having only played at Planet Ice in Leeds previously.

Also, for netminder Rory Butcher and skater Kieran High, this was their debut game for the Warriors - and it was a tough start, with the Ice Wolves roaring into a 3-0 lead.

Fortunately for the Warriors, they were able to strike back with a goal from Tim Lyndon-Belt, assisted by Joshua Downe.

However, the Ice Wolves continued their domination for the rest of the period, slotting home another 3 goals, to put the Warriors on the back foot.

At the end of the 1st period, the Warriors were trailing 6-1.

2nd period

With the Warriors 6-1 down, they had an uphill battle to get back into the game. They could have easily capitulated and become demoralised, but they didn’t. They remained determined, and this resulted in a closer period.

The period ended 5-4 to Ice Wolves.

A great period from the Warriors - with Kieran High scoring on his debut, assisted by Ash Davies.

Den Bautris also scored in the second period with an assist from David Gorog - who also scored an unassisted goal.

Matthew Dudley also bagged a goal, with an assist from Kieran High - bringing the latter’s tally for the game to 1+1.

With the period ending at 11-5 to Ice Wolves, the Warriors had shown great character and resilience to keep the scoreline within reach going into the final period.

3rd period

The Warriors needed a strong final period in order to put the Ice Wolves under pressure. And they did. They bagged 2 unanswered goals within the first 7 minutes of the period, to reduce the deficit to 11-7, which brought some hope to the Warriors bench.

The first goal was scored by Jared Weldon, assisted by Matthew Dudley, which was followed by that deadly duo again - David Gorog and Den Bautris, who combined well to score the Warriors 7th goal of the game.
