Warriors 2 defeated by Renegades

On Sunday 22nd January, our Warriors 2 team welcomed the Blackburn Renegades to Planet Ice, Leeds.

The two sides previously met in June 2022 and played out an exciting 5-5 game.

Unfortunately, due to an error on the EIHA database, Warriors players Leon Dodd and Josh Edwards could not play, meaning that Warriors 1 players, Niks Kamaldins, Ellen Gallimore and coach Sam Cromack stepped in.

The Warriors had 2 debutants for this game. After impressing for Warriors 3, Chris Scampton was moved up and new player Oliver Stick wore the Warriors shirt for the first time.

1st period

Just over one minute into the game, debutant Oliver Stick scored his first Warriors goal, from a Tom Gabbitas assist.

After the Renegades had equalised through an Adam Fleet goal (assisted by Hugh Osborne) the Warriors reclaimed the lead to make it 2-1 with an unassisted goal from Howard Barwick.

But the Renegades continued to match the Warriors. In the following minute, the visitors made it 2-2 with a power play goal from Fleet.

The Warriors responded with 2 unanswered goals. The first coming from Barwick (assisted by Niku Ghaemi) and an unassisted solo goal from Ellen Gallimore. This took the score to 4-2 Warriors.

The Warriors had some daylight for the first time. But this was short lived as Kobalt Ludlow netted a 3rd goal for the Renegades to bring the period to a close with a 4-3 score line.

2nd period

Unfortunately the second period did not start as the Warriors wanted. With 3 unanswered goals from the Renegades, they now trailed 6-4. Goals coming from Conor Duthie (2) and Michal Kmet.

Now chasing the game, the Warriors pushed hard and got their reward with unassisted goals from Stick and Gallimore (both with their second goals of the night). The Warriors had levelled the game at 6-6.

But unfortunately there was a sting in the Renegades tail as they regained the lead in the final minute of the period. Michael Smith scoring an unassisted goal to end the period Warriors 6 Renegades 7.

Ellen Gallimore

Scored her 2nd goal of the night in the second period

3rd period

With only one goal between the two teams, it was finely balanced and all to play for in the final period.

There were only 3 goals in the period. 2 for  Renegades and 1 for the Warriors. Kobalt Ludlow scored both Renegades goals to claim a hat-trick, whilst Warriors 2 debutant Chris Scampton scored from a Sam Cromack assist to end the period at 2-1 - and a final score of 9-7 to Renegades.
