From the first face-off it was clear that this would be an evenly matched contest and the Warriors would need to be at their best to come out on top. Both sides exchanged chances in the early going, but it was the Warriors that broke through first via a long-range effort from Tom Cokill, unassisted, at 8:24. Leeds followed this up two minutes later, as Mo Lin finished a nice play, with Tom Gabbitas picking up the assist. In net, the Warriors’ Joe Quinn made some strong saves to help keep the Falcons at bay.

2nd period

The Warriors came out on the front foot and extended their lead just one minute into the period, with Cokill grabbing his second of the game, with Gabbitas again picking up the helper. The Falcons weren’t going to rollover however, pushing back hard and creating a number of chances that netminder Quinn did well to keep out. This pressure eventually paid dividends as Grimsby pulled a goal back with five minutes left in the period.
