Warriors 2 shoot down the Blackhawks

On Saturday, 8th June our Warriors 2 squad made the journey up to Billingham to face the RAF Blackhawks for their latest matchup in the M62 Cup.

The Warriors were hoping for a better performance, following a disappointing defeat in their last outing against the Kingston Fat Dads.

Starting in goal for the Warriors was Andrew Hughes.


1st period

It was the Blackhawks who struck first, taking the lead at 7:15 with an even strength goal. In an even, tightly-fought period, the Warriors were able to level the score with a goal from Liam Symington, with the assist coming from Jamie Thurston.

2nd period

Just two minutes into the second frame, the Blackhawks took a minor penalty and the Warriors were able to make the man-advantage count, with Jamie Thurston finding the back of the net, with assists from Tom Cokill and Jeff Hardy. It looked like Leeds were going to take a lead into the third, however with just three minutes remaining before the break, the RAF team tied things up at 2-2.

3rd period

The Warriors knew they had the upper-hand and just needed to put it together in the last twenty minutes to head home with the victory. In another even period, the Warriors finally broke through at 53:27, with Chris Scampton grabbing what turned out to be the game-winning goal, assisted by James Way. The Blackhawks pulled their goalie with under two minutes to go, however to no avail as Leeds’ Cockill iced the game, scoring in the empty net with a few seconds left.
